Silver Purity Guide
Everything you need to know about BIS hallmarking, silver grades, and which purity is right for your gift.
What is BIS Hallmarking?
BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) hallmarking is a quality certification issued by the Indian government. It guarantees that a silver item meets the declared purity standard. Since 2021, BIS hallmarking of silver is mandatory for items sold in India.
A BIS hallmark includes: the BIS logo, purity grade (999 or 925), the assaying and hallmarking centre mark, the year of marking, and a unique 6-alphanumeric HUID (Hallmark Unique Identification) code. Every Silvorea product carries this hallmark.
